Was this place once called Betty Louis? My husband insists his children played with the owners children and it was called Betty Loud. That would be in the 1980s.?
The chicken fried pork chop and eggs was exactly the brunch I dreamed of. Their gravy is sublime, and as a born Southerner, I have pretty high gravy standards. No corners cut here. Service was prompt and accommodating.
MoreAs Tony the tiger says "They're GREAT!" Some of the best old skool Portland diner breakfast food out there. Brekfast was delicious and the wait staff and cooks are awesome. If you don't breakfast here you are doing it wrong! Stay Portland Bertie Lou!
MoreThe food is delicious and the service was fast and friendly. I tried the greek scrambler and my husband tried the wild hog omelet. I will definitely return to try the sweet menu items.
MoreWalk in > order "The Works" > be happy > done.
Nothing bad about this place! I got the Terry Benedict w/ tomatoes on a biscuit. I had a hard time choosing, especially with the amazing looking specials. Everything tastes great, good portions, always a hot cup of coffee in hand. Service was fast and friendly.
MoreThis place was delicious! The cook makes your food right in front of you and it was extremely quick and delicious. I highly recommend it!
MoreBertie Lou's is possibly the single most important factor in making my relationship with my partner the wonderfully delicious life we enjoy for nearly three years now. No breakfast compares or ever will. 7/5 stars really.
MoreGreat breakfast place. Large portions. Very efficient, friendly staff. Quite small inside eating area. Outside tables when weather is nice. Might have to wait to get a table, but says alot about how popular it is!!
MoreIf you love the small/cozy, local type of breakfast shop, this is the right place for you. Coffee and food are fantastic. A little attitude built into the menu makes for a good effect. You just might have to wait in line depending on when you go. My brother in law got rudeness when he went, but I experienced none of that, and it makes me think that the person's attempt at humor fell short. In any case, I'd definitely go back.
MoreThis was my first time here, and I'll DEFINITELY be back!!!!! I ordered their Huevos Rancheros special and it was delicious! I need to try at least 10 other breakfast menu options, and ALL of their lunch items (*their focus is breakfast, so they only have four menu options for lunch.) The food is delicious, the service is great, and the owner/waiter is HILARIOUS!!!!! You feed me great food at a great price AND make me laugh? You've just earned a customer/fan for life!
MoreStopped for breakfast on our way to tour Lewis and Clark College. Warm reception, great coffee, ample tea selection, and tasty breakfast served by attentive staff. Highly recommend this quirky spot. The corn beef hash was delicious. If my daughter picks this college, we will be back.
MoreI'm almost hesitant to write this, because I want to keep it all to myself...but in the spirit of supporting great businesses I want to give them the praise they deserve. Times are tough and Bertie Lou's does everything right. This place is hands down the best breakfast! The space, food and service were exceptional. I couldn't think of one thing to improve what they've got going on! Love love love Bertie Lou!
MoreHonest, quirky establishment with good quality food for a real decent price. They’ve been in business since 1943 and they are always a full house.Best to come here for breakfast. Sit at the counter or wait for a table. Plenty of free parking out front. Nice picnic size tables for 4 outside, of the weather is also fair.I got the veggie scramble that came loaded with Zucchini, onions, tomato, spinach with a side of country potatoes (a little over cooked) and choice of toast. Matthew got a breakfast plate with sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs alongside biscuits and gravy. Our coffee was so good, they kept pouring the rich brew. Bring a pen and leave a piece of napkin art!
MoreThe experience was good, not great, but good. The BBQ sauce foods were quite delicious though
MoreBest gravy I've had in a while. Great spot
My favorite breakfast/brunch spot in Portland. It's easy to miss given how small it is, and you might underestimate it with a surface judgement, but not once you dig into their dishes and start exploring the menu. Everything they do, they do very well. Service is fast and thorough once you're seated.
MoreThis is my new favorite breakfast joint in PDX!! It's a tiny spot but it packs a big menu with tons of delicious choices. This place has so much character and the menu is hilarious. Very unique restaurant. ❤ I highly recommend the Croissant French Toast.
MoreThis breakfast joint is a throwback to the old style corner neighborhood restaurant. It’s small, cozy and inviting. Good service and fast turnaround with your food arriving quickly. Food is wholesome and you get a lot of it. Easy parking on the side street.
MoreThe salmon hash I had was amazing!!! The coffee was strong and hot. I highly recommend sitting outside on a nice day and enjoying a cup!
MoreWow. Not sure what was better the food or the great atmosphere created by the staff. From beginning to end, they were incredibly engaging and friendly. The food is amazing. I have found my favorite breakfast place. If you love strong coffee, you'll be in beqven.
MoreHad never ordered lunch before, but I have to say they have a Ruben sandwich that is legit. Great quality corned beef and they were able to keep the toast toasty despite ample amounts of sauerkraut. Great!
MoreOnly 7 tables and a few seats at the bar, but the breakfast selection was unique and delicious. Service was quick so they were able to turn tables.
MoreWhat a wonderful experience, the food, the atmosphere the staff. This place is very busy and for good reasons. Food choices, flavors and freshness. Great local neighborhood feel and a pleasant staff which is attentive to the needs of the dining guests with a pleasant attitude.
MoreLove to come here when I am here visiting. Unfortunately it's not enough. Even if you don't like the sauce on everyone else's Benedict. You have to try Bertie Lou's. Best I've ever had!
